MILITARY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: We have made a $25.00 donation to the VFW's Military Assistance Program (MAP). MAP strives to enhance the quality of life for members of the armed forces and their families by identifying critical needs and providing emergency financial aid. MAP has forged partnership with a variety of service providers, including militarymoves.com and vetjobs.com, which are aimed at providing the transitioning service member with relocation and employment assistance. I have a list of MAP initiatives for 2004-2005, but they are too extensive for this publication.

FIREMAN OF THE YEAR: The Alameda County Fire Department has submitted the name of Chief Terry Lee Givens to our Post for consideration as our nominee for this year's competition. We will finalize our selection at our next meting.

VETERAN'S DAY PARADE: District 14's official Veteran's Day Parade participation will be the Tri-Valley Veteran's Day Parade in Pleasanton on November 7, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. The parade will be honoring "Rosie the Riveter". Post 6298 already has over 40 "Rosie the Riveters" participating. The parade Grand Marshal flew B-17s between the U.S. and England during WWII. Please put this parade on your calendar.
HELP WANTED: We need your help in achieving a few of our Post goals.

1. Do any of you have a newspaper, radio or TV connection? October 25, 2004 has been designated as "Make a Difference Day". Make a Difference Day is not only a VFW program, but one held across the United States. It is a celebration of neighbors HELPING neighbors. Make a Difference Day is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation. Millions of people volunteer on that day helping over an estimated 25 million people.

I am hoping that Post 7636 will participate by getting the Daily review or local radio and/or television involved.

2. TEACHERS AWARD: The Teachers Award is a very important part of the Community Service Program offered by the National Veterans of Foreign Wars. Post 7636 is looking for a nominee, but we need that nominee, including applicable completed forms, by our next meeting on October 8th. There are three categories from which to enter a Teacher for an award:

Kindergarten to 5th grade
6th grade to 8th grade
9th grad to 12th grade.

If you have a nominee or questions, please contact me at (510) 352-6399.
